Hypnosis FAQs
Hypnosis FAQS
Whether you’re new to hypnotherapy or simply want to better understand the process, it’s natural to have questions. Explore the frequently asked questions below to learn what hypnosis feels like, how it works, and what you can expect during a session.
What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of focused awareness where your body is deeply relaxed while your mind remains awake and alert. In this natural state, we can access your subconscious mind—the place where positive change and lasting transformation begin through targeted suggestions.
In fact, you naturally move in and out of hypnosis every day:
- Zoning out while driving and accidentally missing your freeway exit
- Getting so absorbed in a movie that you forget you are in a room full of strangers
- Daydreaming while someone is speaking to you
What Hypnosis Is NOT.
When people hear “hypnosis,” they often think of stage performers swinging pocket watches or making volunteers act silly. Stage hypnosis is purely for entertainment.
Clinical hypnotherapy is entirely different. You remain alert, comfortable, and in full control of your mind and body at all times. You can hear, speak, and move if needed, and you will never be asked to reveal secrets or do anything against your will. I use hypnosis strictly as a therapeutic healing tool.
Does Hypnotherapy Really Work?
Yes. Clinical studies by researchers at institutions like Stanford, Harvard, and Penn State show that hypnosis actively alters brain activity to support positive change. Hypnotherapy is widely recognized as a safe, effective tool for building self-confidence, overcoming blocks, managing weight, and relieving anxiety.
How Does Hypnotherapy Work?
Your subconscious mind holds your underlying mental “programming.” You may consciously want to make a change, but if your subconscious programming favors old habits, real progress feels like an uphill battle. Hypnosis gently calms the critical conscious mind so we can update those underlying subconscious patterns—allowing your behaviors to align with your goals naturally.
What Does Hypnosis Feel Like?
It is a peaceful, pleasant, and deeply relaxing experience. While your body rests, your mind stays clear and aware. Most clients leave sessions feeling refreshed, grounded, and rejuvenated.
Will I Lose Control of Myself?
Hypnosis is a very comfortable, peaceful and pleasant feeling. Your body is extremely relaxed but your mind is aware. You will feel a sense of rejuvenation and feel refreshed after a hypnotherapy session.
Can I Get Stuck in Hypnosis?
No. You can open your eyes and return to full alertness whenever you wish. You can no more get “stuck” in hypnosis than you can get “stuck” daydreaming. If left uninterrupted, you would simply return to normal waking awareness or drift into a natural sleep.
